Johannah Cousins joined the Deason Center as a consulting attorney in January 2020. Raised in Indian Springs, Alabama, Johannah received a B.A. in English from Yale University in 2010, then moved to England for two years to teach. In 2012, she moved to New Orleans, where she became interested in criminal justice. After graduating magna cum laude from Tulane University Law School in 2017, Johannah became a staff attorney at the Orleans Public Defenders. She has also worked as a legal consultant for the Tulane Criminal Law Clinic. Johannah’s current work for the Center focuses on prosecutorial charging practices.
